2020 NFL Draft Top 10 Review
With the 2021 draft just around the corner at the end of April, we look back at the 2020 NFL Draft.
Here is a review of the top 10 overall picks in this draft.
- Cincinnati Bengals pick Joe Burrow QB LSU
With the number one overall pick, the Bengals selected the Heisman winning Quarterback Joe Burrow fresh off an MVP performance in the National Championship victory. Burrow looked like the face of the franchise that the Bengals were looking for in a tough first season, which ended in a season-ending injury for the young QB. Finishing a 13–5 TD to INT ratio, 2688 yards, 65.4 completion percentage and a passer rating of 89.8. Burrow is sure to improve in year number 2.
2. Washington pick Chase Young DE Ohio State
Chase Young showed everything that was advertised for the Washington Football Team in his first year. Won Defensive rookie of the year and was also selected in the PFWA all-rookie team. Finished the season with 7.5 sacks, 42 tackles and added a TD to an impressive first season. Young looks set to terrorize Quarterbacks in the NFL over the next decade.
3. Detroit Lions pick Jeff Okudah CB Ohio State
Jeff Okudah struggled in his rookie season with the Detroit Lions who also had a disappointing season. Okudah has his injury worries throughout the year only managing 9 out of 16 games but still managed 47 tackles and 1 pick. Detroit will be hoping he is fully fit and healthy in what will be a big year for Okudah.
4. New York Giants pick Andrew Thomas OT Georgia
The Giants selected Andrew Thomas to protect young Quarterback Daniel Jones, despite a shaky start he was very much improved come the end of the season. Andrew Thomas will be looking to continue to improve and become the cornerstone tackle that the Giants drafted with a high pick.
5. Miami Dolphins pick Tua Tagovailoa QB Alabama
Tua showed signs of promise in his first year in which he shared the starting Quarterback role with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick. With Fitzpatrick rumoured to be moving on the training wheels will be taken from Tua he will be given the keys to the franchise. Finished his rookie season with an 11–5 TD to INT ratio, 1814 yards, 64.1 completion percentage and a QB rating of 87.5.
6. LA Chargers pick Justin Herbert QB Oregon
Justin Herbert took over from veteran Tyrod Taylor in a bizarre and extremely unfortunate medical accident, but Herbert grabbed the opportunity with both hands. In his rookie season, he was awarded the Pepsi Rookie of The Year and the OROY after breaking all kinds of records in his debut season. Herbert finished with a 31–10 TD to INT ratio, 4336 passing yards with a 66.6 completion percentage and a passer rating of 98.3.
7. Carolina Panthers pick Derrick Brown DT Auburn
Panthers first-round pick Brown had a slow start to the year but ended up impressing and improving enough to earn himself a place in the PFWA all-rookie team. Derrick Brown finished up the season with 2 sacks and 34 tackles, he will be hoping his continued progression will lead to a better stat line in 2021.
8. Arizona Cardinals pick Isaiah Simmons LB Clemson
Simmons took a while to force his way into more snaps with the Cards but when he got his chance, he showed why he was selected 8th overall after breaking out in Week 7. Finished the season with 54 tackles, 2 sacks and one interception earned Simmons a place in the PFWA all-rookie team.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars pick CJ Henderson CB Florida
Jacksonville has a recent history of having top tier cornerbacks with the likes of Jalen Ramsey and they drafted CJ with hopes of the same. His coaches are overly excited about what the future holds after only managing 8 games due to injury. In the 8 games, he played Henderson amassed 34 tackles and 1 interception.
10. Cleveland Browns pick Jedrick Wills OT Alabama
Drafted to open running lanes for superstar RB Nick Chubb and keep franchise QB Baker Mayfield clean and he did that only allowing 4 sacks. Made the PFWA all-rookie team and will undoubtedly improve in year two with the experience gained this season.
